Membership.

Membership in the NEDIAI, a chartered division of the world's largest and oldest forensic organization (IAI), carries many benefits. Among these are receipt of a quarterly journal that contains articles and announcements of interest to those engaged in the fields of forensic science and/or crime scene investigation. Members are also entitled to discounted tuition fees for the annual educational conference and may be eligible to attend other training courses at a reduced or no cost. In addition, members are eligible for service on the Executive Board (depending on type of membership) and/or one of several standing committees. The NEDIAI currently has over 200 members. The organization is comprised of members from law enforcement agencies, forensic laboratories, consulting firms, academia, identification bureaus and other entities engaged in the pursuit of excellence in the identification field.​

Types of Membership

Active Member
The active membership of this Division shall consist of the Superintendents of Officers in Charge of Bureaus of Identification, Sheriffs, Chiefs of Police and all other persons who are engaged in the science of identification and investigation and who are bona fide employees of and receiving salaries wholly, or in part, from National, State, County or Municipal Governments, or subdivisions thereof.  Any Active member shall not lose his active status because of retirement or change of position so long as he/she maintains continuous membership.

Honorary Member
Honorary Members of this Division shall consist of those persons who are elected by the Board of Directors or elected by the Division in conference assembled to such terms as established at the time of election. They shall not be subject to the payment of yearly contributions and are ineligible to hold office or vote.

Sustaining Member
Any Active or Associate Member in good standing, who pays a one time non-refundable sum of money equal to ten times the current annual dues, shall be designated as a Sustaining Member.  Sustaining Members shall be exempt from the payment of all further dues and assessment and shall be entitled to all of the privileges of an Active or Associate Member to include voting rights. 

Associate Member
All reputable persons wholly or partially engaged in any of the various phases of the science of identification and who are not qualified for active membership are hereby eligible to become Associate Members. They shall, in all respects, be subject to the same rules, fees and charges,and entitled to the same rights and privileges as Active Members, except that they shall not be entitled to election to the office of Vice President or President. 

Life Member
Life Members shall consist of those Active Members who have contributed outstanding service to the Division and Law Enforcement and who in the opinion of the Board of Directors are worthy of such recognition. 

Names of such members shall be submitted, to the delegates in conference assembled, for such consideration and shall be voted such Life Membership by the conference. They shall not be subjected to the payment of yearly contributions but shall be eligible to vote and shall be entitled to all the privileges of Active Membership.
